Complete guide to fu (minipoints) calculation in Riichi Mahjong
Base Fu
Every winning hand starts with a base fu value. Special hands have fixed fu values.

| Standard base | 20 | All winning hands start with 20 fu |
| Chiitoitsu | 25 | Seven pairs: fixed 25 fu (no additions) |
| Pinfu Tsumo | 20 | Pinfu with tsumo: fixed 20 fu (no additions) |
| Open Pinfu Shape | 30 | Open hand with pinfu shape ron: adjusted to 30 fu (20 fu ron does not exist) |
Win Type Additions
Additional fu based on how you win.

| Tsumo | +2 | Winning by self-draw (except Pinfu) |
Triplets and Kans
Fu values for triplets (pon) and kans. Values depend on tile type and open/closed status.

Note: Sequences (chi) give 0 fu.
Pair and Wait
Additional fu from the pair (head) and wait shape.
| Type | Fu | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Value pair | +2 | Pair of dragons, seat wind, or round wind |
| Double wind pair | +4 | Pair that is both seat and round wind |
| Closed wait | +2 | Kanchan (middle wait), Penchan (edge wait), or Tanki (pair wait) |
Rounding Rule
The total fu is always rounded up to the nearest 10.
Example:
Base 20 + Tsumo 2 + Closed triplet 4 = 26 → rounds to 30 fu
